Bamberg

Bamberg is a 9th Century town situated where the Main River and Regnitz River meet..

It's called 'Little Venice' for a reason!

These picturesque houses were once inhabited by fishermen.

The houses are built on poles over the river.

The Old Town Hall...
built on an island in the middle of the river.

Famous paintings on the exterior.

The Old Town as well as this building is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Bridge over the Regnitz River that connects the Old Town Hall to the city..

Romantic Road to the Old Town Hall.

The historic homes of Bamberg.

Bamberg Cathedral founded in 1002 by King Henry II.

The cathedral contains the tombs of Henry II and his wife...
as well as the grave of Pope Clement II.

The New Residence nearby served as the home of the prince-bishops of Bamberg between 1697 and 1803.

After that it was the royal residence.

The rose garden at the New Residence was designed in 1733...

featuring famous sculptures.

Beautiful Gate...
the entrance to the Old Court.

The Old Court was the first residence for the bishops of Bamburg.

The Bavarian flowers were still in full bloom in October.

Let me end with a few random pic's of beautiful Bamberg.

Blooms.

Bricks.

Bikes.

Arches.

From Bamburg we cruised on down the river...
with little room to spare as we passed under bridges.

We spent our evenings on the ship playing cards.
Skyjo was our favorite.

We had really good card-playing travel partners.
