June

June. The gateway to summer!

 


We began the month with our first camping trip of the year...

at Edgewater Bar in Fort Langley.

We never ordered the weather...

but made the most of it by tarping the table are we were sharing with Terry and Lovella.

Who knew Jenga was good camping entertainment?

Herb and Anneliese met us in Fort Langley for coffee at the Blacksmith Bakery in Fort Langley one afternoon.

Then they joined us for dinner at our campsite.

Mexican for the win!

The rain held off and we sat around the fire after dinner...

...watching the geese as the sun disappeared from view.

Our intention was to cycle to Barnston Island with Terry and Lovella the following day...

but we ended up going on our own since Terry's bike had a tire that needed to be taken to the bike shop.

The free ferry shuttled us across the river...

where we did a 10 km loop of the island.

Elmer remembered Barnston Island well from his trucking days...

when he delivered marl lime to the farms here.

We stopped at the little park near the ferry dock and decided we would come back with our freinds one day for a picnic.

And just like that...

Maggie graduated from high school. 

The previous week she received the Grizzly Award for the top overall student at GW Graham...

as well as the trophy for female 'Athlete of the Year'.

We watched the four hour grad ceremony from the comfort of a box suite at the Chilliwack Coliseum.

It was quite nice to be able to get up and stretch and to be served snacks!

Heidi had won the bid on a box at a school fundraiser.

Maggie in her prom dress...

...a dreamy princess in blue!

One week later, Dylan graduated from Unity Christian school. 

We were at Kris and Lina's for a reception before the ceremony...which took place at Chilliwack Pentecostal Church.

A few days later they had their banquet and prom...

and just like that, his school days are over.

For now!

Spencer and Broni hosted a shower for Emme early in the month.

It was almost called off a few days earlier since Emme had a fall which resulted in a serious concussion.

But the shower went ahead...though Emme had to take a breaks to lie down in between.

By the end of month she was feeling much better...though still not back at work.

Hoping she is back to her 'old self' by the time the wedding day rolls around.

Maggie ran in the BC High School track meet in Langley for the last time....

and we went to cheer her on!

She was third in the 800 meter.

That is third in the province of BC!

We will miss the high school track meets that we have been attending for many years!

On Father's Day we took the Monarch to church in the monring...

...and rode our bikes to Harrison Hot Springs in the afternoon.

It was a lovely ride down country roads...

with a stop at the lavender farm and an ice-cream cone from Muddy Waters in Harrsion.

In the evening we were invited to Kris and Lina's for coffee and dessert.

The blooms of June never disappoint...

and the fields looked green despite littel rain for the p[ast two months.

The second crop of grass came off the fields on June 12th.

And that's it for 'rainbow country' in June of 2026!

May

The merry month of May came and went!

The wild roses bloomed along the roadside...

...crops were planted and the land was thirsty after an extremely dry April. 

We lived in a dust bowl in our neighbourhood while the fields were worked.

Elmer spent most of the month in the fields...

but we went took several Sunday afternoon bike rides.

We drove out to Ladner and then rode to Westham Island across the recently re-opened historic bridge...

after being damaged by a tugboat.

The bridge is 116 years old and one of the oldest in our province.

We stopped to watch someone land their big catch...

...which happened to be a fair-sized sturgeon.

Dinner on the river was a good way to end the afternoon.

Ranen turned 20! How can that be?

The clematis put on a show!

Maggie was busy with track meets...often competing with her friend Adrianna.

Maggie was invited to a 'Leaders of Tomorrow' event sponsored by the Rotary Club...

where she was honoured and received a $750 bursary.

Mother's Day. 

Jeremy and Broni came for a visit in the afternoon...

and we were at Kris and Lina's in the evening, with Tim and Heidi as well.

He found it quite amusing that we bought property on Little Mountain.

Just planning ahead!

Doug Perry retired from 35 years at Rogers/Shaw...

 and we celebrated with Doug and Corita and Ron and Ruth.

We had planned to take the motorhome to Whistler for our first outing of the year...

but with the cool and unsettled weather forecast we stayed at Cascade Lodge for tow nights instead. 

We cycled the Valley Trail and the Lost Lake trails...

and enjoyed dinners at Mongoli Grill and Milestones.

We can't count the number of times we have visited Brandywine Falls.

Always so beautiful!

I rode my bike to the eastern hillsides a few times...

and walked among the cedars, moss and ferns. 

Always a breath of fresh air!

The hops started their climb at the beginning of the month and by the the end of May...

they had covered the the arbour. 

The white roses are in their glory!

Last Sunday we took the '47 Monarch to church.

 

Incredible to think this 'Sunday-go-to-meeting car has been driven to the same church for 79 years.

Mr. Voth was the original owner and attended East Chilliwack MB church back in the day...

now Central Community Church.

In the afternoon we rode our bikes to Yarrow along the Vedder River...

and had ice-cream at Mighty Moose.

On May 31st we stood in Emme & Jaden's 'field of dreams' and took a photo as the sun set. 

Only six weeks left to keep the field green and get the corn to grow!
