Wurtzburg

Wurtzburg is a baroque city in Bavaria with both French and German influence...

...situated on the Main River with vineyards all around.

The Old Main Bridge (Alte Mainbrucke) was bult in the 16th century...
and is one of the most iconic landmarks of Wurtzburg.

Wurtzburg Cathedral...first built at this site in 788.
It was heavily damaged in 1945 and rebuilt.

Wurtzburg is a university town these days...
but has some amazing sites that draw visitors from around the world.

We may have missed out on some of these...
since we opted to do our own exploring.

Marienkapelle.
The Roman Catholic Church in the market square was built in the 14th century.

Nearby was the Wurtzburg Maypole...
part of a German traditional celebration on May 1st.

The doves found refuge here too!

We wandered about the market at the city square...

...and checked out the produce being grown nearby.

And then we chose the bakery / coffee shop with the longest line-up and joined the queue.
We weren't disappointed!

It was warm in their cozy upstairs dining room...
the staff was friendly and the baked goods were amazing.

One more thing that put Wurtzburg on the map...
the X-ray was discovered here in 1895.

Enough about Wurtzburg...we are rolling down the river again.
