Passau lies on the Austrian German border...
...at the point where three rivers converge.
Danube. Inn. Ilse.
It is also called Three Rivers City.
On the hill above the city is the Veste Niederhaus Castle...
a 13th century fortress.
We walked to Old Town...
...with its narrow alleyways.
City Hall
We enjoyed our scenic cruise through the heart of Europe.
Walhalla Memorial...
a hall of fame memorial in Bavaria.
And every once in awhile we passed through another lock.
We were glad the crew seemed to know what they were doing...
...since there was never much room to spare.
And then we were off again.
Our dinner menu on the ship always featured some local dishes.
Elmer ordered the Konigsburger Klops appetizer...
in honour of our good friends who really enjoy this dish.
We were in Germany now and enjoying German cuisine.
The next morning we were docked in Regensburg.
It was October 3rd and a German holiday...
so we were not the only ones out and about!
There were cruise boats lined up along the banks of the river...
...and everyone was out enjoying the fall sunshine.
The famous old rock bridge is a busy pedestrian highway linking the old town with the modern city.
We enjoyed music as we sauntered.
Regensburg Cathedral.
We skipped the tour and explored on our own...
as we had seen enough churches by now.
In the afternoon we carried on down the Main-Danube Canal...
..under bridges with no room to spare!
It was a great afternoon to be on the deck...
and enjoy the sites as we passed by.
Every village is marked by an old church.
Catholic parish in Bavaria.
Next stop...Nuremburg.
