August is like the Sunday of summer...
filled with so many good things.
We had one day of rain in the middle of the month...
and a beautiful rainbow when it ended.
Johnny. He's the friendly sort!
One Saturday our road was closed so we went to the overpass to check out the situation.
We met our neighbours there and had a nice chat.
It seems that the work of pounding a new culvert in beneath the freeway overpass,
resulted in a sinkhole on Gibson Road above.
Kris had a birthday.
Between the City of Chilliwack engineering department and the contractor who did the culvert work...
they managed to solve the problem and reopen the road in a few days time.
A BBQ at Ron and Ruth's was a fun way to spend a Saturday night.
Maggie invited me to join her in the hunt for a grad dress.
She tried on many beautiful gowns...
first at Champagne and Lace and then at Everything But the Groom.
They all looked fantastic on her...
but in the end the blue was the winner and she said 'yes to the dress'!
That was right after our heavy rain event of August,
with a few lingering thunder showers passing through.
There was a good turnout, good food...
and room for everyone to take shelter undercover when the downpour arrived.
Emme and Jaden showed up to share their good news...
just as we were about to leave for a week of camping.
We had expected their engagement announcement would be coming sometime soon!
Jaden took her to a 'gala fundraiser' in West Vancouver...
which turned out to be a romantic picnic for two on a dock.
He popped the question.
She said 'Yes'!
We are looking forward to our first grandchild getting married next summer.
We left for a week of camping in the Kootenay's...
but stopped in Kelowna to visit family on our way.
Martha is now in a full-care facility.
She was happy to welcome us to her room...
though she wasn't quite sure whose room she was staying in!
We spent the evening with Kevin and Linda...
toured their lovely new home at McKinley Beach and parked on their driveway overnight.
We met up with John and Liz for breakfast at the Jammery in Lake Country...
..before continuing on to Halcyon Hot Springs.
This was the view from our campsite at Halcyon Heights RV Resort.
Terry and Lovella were parked right next to us.
We rode the trails...
shared meals..
...and played cards together every evening.
And once it was dark...
we watched the stars!
I can see why this area is known for it's 'dark sky tourism'!
We even saw a Starlink satellite train making its way across the heavens.
We spent one afternoon in the hot spring pools...
situated right above the lake.
We have visited Halcyon Hot Springs several times over the years...
...one of our favorite spots in BC!
Being allowed campfires was a bonus!
Had we known, we would have come prepared with firewood!
Midweek we moved on to the Riverside Park campground in Midway...on the banks of the Kettle River.
Lovella brought a beautiful bouquet of roses from home...
to the delight of these two early morning visitors!
Greg and Ellen drove up from Colville, Washington to sped a day with us...
just a short 1 hour 20 minute drive to our campsite.
We talked, ate, laughed and played SKYJO.
And by 5 pm they had they had to be back in the USA or spend the night.
The nearby border crossing is only open for eight hours every day.
We rode the rail trail to Greenwood...
...had coffee at Deadwood Junction (and cinnamon buns, of course)
...and then rode the 16 kms back to our campsite.
We toured the rail museum in Midway...
and spent the afternoon reading books while cooling our feet in the Kettle River.
And so ended August and our time in the Kootenays!
Yes, August was like the 'Sunday of summer'.
Delightful!
